01 The Challenge
A new name is only as credible as the first thing people find when they search it. The program’s web presence was split across two legacy sites with different audiences, different names and years of accumulated pages, and the resident-facing side did not answer the one question most visitors arrive with: does this go in the bin?
02 The Approach
The site is organised around the three reasons people come: what goes where, how recycling works, and where to drop off. Putting that choice on the first screen, ahead of anything about the organisation, means a resident gets an answer in seconds and the brand earns trust by being useful.
Recyclepedia is the centre of the site. A search box in the hero and quick answers for the items Manitobans ask about most give the most common questions a one-tap route, while the full 2,000-item database handles everything else.
Producers, communities and schools each get a section written for them, with the obligation, registration and reporting content that previously lived on a separate domain brought under the one brand. Both legacy domains now redirect into the new site so no link or search result was lost in the change.
03 The Outcome
Recycle Manitoba launched in September 2026 with one site, one name and one answer for anyone in the province wondering what to do with a pizza box. Daily visitors settled above the combined levels of the two sites it replaced.
